International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan.
AMSTERDAM (dpa): An investigation led by the United Nations (UN) into allegations of sexual misconduct by International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan has been completed.
The announcement was made on Friday by the court's Presidency of the Assembly of States Parties. No details of the findings were disclosed.
The report was "immediately" forwarded to a panel of judicial experts, a statement said, adding that a decision on whether disciplinary action will be taken is expected within 30 days.
Khan has been on temporary leave from the court in The Hague since May, following allegations that he sexually abused a staff member on multiple occasions over an extended period.
He rejected the accusations as unfounded and called for an independent investigation. The allegations were examined by the UN Office of Internal Oversight Services.
Khan, who is from Britain, has served as the ICC’s chief prosecutor since 2021.
The court prosecutes suspects accused of war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and the crime of aggression.
Khan’s request, the ICC has issued arrest warrants for, among others, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The court has come under intense criticism, particularly from the United States (US), over the arrest warrant issued for Netanyahu. The US, Russia, and Israel are not members of the ICC. - dpa
