Vietnam to ban sale of e-cigarettes, heated tobacco products under new investment law

HANOI (Xinhua): Vietnam will ban the sale of electronic cigarettes and heated tobacco products starting March 1, 2026, under the amended Law on Investment passed by the National Assembly on Thursday, local daily Tuoi Tre reported.

The list of prohibited business sectors also includes the trading of narcotic substances, certain chemicals and minerals, wild plant and animal species sourced from nature, and prostitution services.

Last year, the National Assembly approved a resolution regulating a ban on the production, trading, import, possession, transportation, and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products, local daily Thanh Nien reported.

Positive impacts have already been seen one year after the resolution was issued, Angela Pratt, the World Health Organization's representative in Vietnam, was quoted by Vietnam News Agency as saying.

At medical facilities such as Bach Mai Hospital, the number of emergency cases related to e-cigarettes has fallen by 70 percent while the promotion of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco has decreased or stopped entirely in many places, she said. - Xinhua
