BEIJING: A Chinese woman escaping from a high-rise flat, reportedly to avoid being caught by her lover’s wife, has gone viral online.

Video footage showed her scaling the building’s exterior walls and water pipes while wearing a miniskirt.

The death-defying scene has shocked people on mainland social media.

The incident took place on November 30, at a residential complex in Guangdong province, southern China.

The unidentified woman with long black hair was dressed in a white mini skirt and was captured on video clinging to the outside of a building, reportedly on the 10th floor.

According to reports from ETtoday, she was allegedly having an affair with the male resident.

When the man’s wife returned home unexpectedly, he reportedly urged the woman to hide on the balcony or climb out to avoid being discovered.

In the widely circulated video posted online, the woman is seen holding a mobile phone in one hand while frantically manoeuvring along the building’s exterior.

At one point, she is seen briefly speaking with a shirtless man inside the flat through the window before he disappears from view.

She then attempts to climb down a narrow water pipe but loses her footing, sliding down an entire storey.

Fortunately, she manages to brace her feet against the edge of a lower balcony on the 9th floor and grips the pipe tightly to stop her fall.

Realising she is trapped, the woman moves laterally towards a neighbour’s window and bangs on the glass for help.

The neighbour opens the window and pulls her inside, saving her from a potentially fatal fall.

It is not known if the wife discovered the affair.

Local police have not yet issued an official response to the incident.

The footage has shocked many and sparked a wave of humorous mockery on mainland social media.

One person said: “What was once known only to three people is now known by the entire neighbourhood.”

While another joked: “If you say she is timid, she dares to climb tall buildings; if you say she is brave, she does not even have the courage to face the man’s legal wife.”

“This woman is risking everything, for what? A man who will not even spend money on a hotel room for her, and who is so afraid of his wife that he lets you take all the risks,” said a third.

“Nowadays, having an affair has practically become a technical craft,” a fourth person added. - South China Morning Post
