Two sentenced for immigration, criminal offences in Brunei


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The Immigration and National Registration Department reported two recent prosecution cases involving immigration and criminal offences in Brunei Darussalam.

In the first case, permanent resident Nurul Jannah Abdullah Argente @ Memenia Embile Argente, 45, was convicted on four separate charges and sentenced to a total of five years’ imprisonment, effective July 10.

The charges included possessing another person’s passport or travel document without lawful authority under Chapter 12(1)(A) of the Passports Act, possessing eight forged immigration stamps under Section 473(b), Chapter 22 of the Penal Code, and two counts of abetment under Section 466(c), Chapter 22 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, another separate case saw Bangladeshi national Mohammad Aman Ullah, 43, pleading guilty to overstaying in the country after his immigration pass had expired, an offence under Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 17.

He was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and three strokes of the cane, with the punishment taking effect from Nov 24, the date of his arrest. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN
