YANGON: Residents reported feeling a noticeable earthquake aftershock across Mandalay and Sagaing Regions, according to local reports.

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology stated that the aftershock occurred Tuesday evening (Dec 2). The epicentre was located approximately 14 miles east-northeast of Sintgaing, at a depth of 33 km, registering a magnitude of 4.2 on the Richter scale.

Mandalay residents described the tremor as a strong aftershock following a long period of minimal seismic activity.

“It’s been a long time since it last shook. This time it was clearly strong,” a local resident said.

“The morning quake around Mandalay went largely unnoticed in Sagaing. But this evening’s aftershock was felt by everyone in both Sagaing and Mandalay.”

Another Mandalay resident added that the aftershock struck after a significant pause since the last tremor, and this time it was widely and clearly perceived in both cities. - Eleven Media/ANN
