HANOI: Sultan Hassanal on Tuesday (Dec 2) visited the headquarters of Viettel Group as part of the final day of the state visit to Vietnam.
Upon arrival, the monarch was welcomed by Deputy Minister of National Defence Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang; and Secretary General of the Communist Party Committee and Vice President of Viettel Major General Nguyen Dinh Chien.
During the visit, His Majesty was briefed on Viettel’s operations before touring an exhibition featuring a range of the company’s military and civilian technologies. These included service drones, UAV systems, military communications platforms and autopilot technologies showcased at the Viettel Digital Museum.
Accompanying the Sultan was Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
The museum highlights Viettel’s technological evolution through a blend of traditional exhibits and interactive multimedia, reflecting the company’s development as a major defence and telecommunications enterprise in Vietnam.
The Sultan concluded his two-day visit and departed for Brunei Darussalam later in the day.
Present at the Noi Bai International Airport to bid farewell to the monarch were the chairman of the Office of the President as Minister-in-attendance Le Khanh Hai; chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Vu Dai Thang; and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong as well as Brunei residents in Vietnam.
This state visit demonstrates the commitment of Brunei Darussalam Vietnam to deepen friendly relations and cooperation following the establishment of the Comprehensive Partnership in 2019.
It has presented the opportunity to build on the progress that both countries have achieved in priority areas, with both sides expressing interest in increasing cooperation in other areas of shared interest, including the oil and gas industry, food safety, particularly in the agri-food and aquaculture sectors, as well as the halal industry.
Both countries signed three Memoranda of Understanding, which, among others, will increase the technical capacity of fisheries laboratories; add value to fisheries products to make them more competitive and expand export markets; enhance the protection of fishing communities; and promote responsible fishing practices, as well as strengthen collaborative efforts among enforcement agencies. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
