PHNOM PENH: The working group responsible for measuring and marking temporary pillars on the border in Banteay Meanchey province between pillars 42 and 47 is continuing to work smoothly. As of November 24, aerial photography using drones has covered 5.3 kilometres between border posts 42 and 43, or approximately 76 per cent of the total distance.

According to the Cambodian team, the joint group from the Cambodian and Thai sides are using aerial drone photography to generate a photo map before temporary markers are installed on the ground.

This section passes through Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages in O Beichoan commune, Ou Chrov district, and borders Khok Sung district, Sa Kaeo province, Thailand.

Aerial photography is scheduled to finish on November 26 for this location (42-43). Subsequently, both sides will commence the installation of temporary markers on November 27.

According to the Border Affairs Committee, following the completion of marker installation between pillars 42 and 43, the working group will continue their task on the section between pillars 43 and 47.

The work is being conducted in accordance with the spirit of the Cambodia-Thailand Joint Boundary Commission (JBC) meeting held on October 21-22.

Meanwhile, at the section between border pillars 52 and 59 in Kamrieng district, Battambang province bordering Thailand’s Chanthaburi province, a joint Cambodia-Thailand measurement team has been working since November 8 and had completed the installation of 157 out of the total 166 temporary markers.

According to the working group, both parties expect to complete the work by November 25.

As per the agreed plan, the working groups from both sides will continue with aerial drone photography on the border section between pillars 52 and 59 starting from November 27.

Technical officials explained that the installation of temporary border markers at the Kamrieng district border was conducted prior to the aerial drone photography because the boundary line in this area is straight.

Both parties agreed to place markers before taking aerial shots, in contrast to their work at Prey Chan where aerial photography first was required due to geographical conditions. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
