Brunei CPI increases by 0.1pc in October


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The consumer price index (CPI) in October 2025 recorded an increase of 0.1 per cent compared to October 2024, driven by increases of 0.4 per cent in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index; and 0.03 per cent in the non-food index, a release from the Department of Economic Planning and Statistics at the Ministry of Finance and Economy stated.

The increase in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index was mainly contributed by an increase in the prices of fruits (4.6 per cent), particularly fresh non-tropical fruits; fish and seafood (1.6 per cent), mainly fresh fish; and coffee, tea and cocoa (4.6 per cent).

As for the non-food index, the increase was driven by prices of clothing and footwear (1.9 per cent); transport (0.3 per cent), particularly air fares; and restaurants and hotels (0.2 per cent), mainly restaurants, cafes, and fast-food outlets.

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI in October decreased by 0.2 per cent compared to September.

This was driven by decreases of 0.1 per cent in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index; and 0.3 per cent in the non-food index.

The decrease in the food and non-alcoholic beverages index was mainly contributed by a decrease in the prices of sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (4.3 per cent); and fish and seafood (0.4 per cent).

Meanwhile, the decrease in the non-food index was driven by the prices of transport (0.6 per cent); clothing and footwear (2.7 per cent); and recreation and culture (0.5 per cent). - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
