Hunt on for five Vietnamese prisoners after shots fired during daring Cambodia court escape

PHNOM PENH: A manhunt is currently underway for five of six Vietnamese prisoners who escaped form Svay Rieng Provincial Court on Tuesday (Nov 18) morning. One of the six was recaptured within an hour of the break, while the remaining five escapees and their accomplices remain at large.

Security camera footage showed prison police officials bringing the group of detainees to the court for hearings, at approximately 9am.

The group exited a Prison Department vehicle and walked towards a woman, who handed one of the group a pistol. Shorts were fired at the police, and then the group fled in a vehicle.

The authorities returned fire, but failed to stop them.

The General Department of Prisons (GDP) explained that all six Vietnamese detainees were arrested and charged for drug trafficking and gun procession. One of them, Le Thanh Vinh Luong, was recaptured at 10.36am, when the car used to free them drove off the road and into a ditch. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
