MANILA: Typhoon Uwan (international name: Fung-Wong) has affected at least 4,450,846 people, or 1,263,181 families, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Wednesday (June 12) at noon.
According to the NDRRMC, the affected individuals are spread across 11,137 barangays in 16 regions.
The highest number of affected people was recorded in the Bicol Region, with 1,414,412 individuals (394,349 families), followed by Central Luzon with 993,901 people (294,358 families) and the Ilocos Region with 426,884 individuals (122,044 families).
The affected population in the other 13 regions is as follows:
Eastern Visayas: 422,392 persons/ 117,529 families
Negros Island Region: 198,120 persons/ 51,468 families
Western Visayas: 166,812 persons/ 52,410 families
Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM): 151,960 persons/ 30,392 families
Calabarzon: 144,607 persons/ 42,177 families
Mimaropa: 107,186 persons/ 31,199 families
Caraga: 105,122 persons/ 30,201 families
Cagayan Valley: 192,787 persons/ 61,419 families
Metro Manila: 69,426 persons/ 18,511 families
Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR): 38,870 persons/ 12,399 families
Northern Mindanao: 6,942 persons/ 1,678 families
SOCCKSKARGEN: 219 persons/ 51 families
Of the over 4.4 million affected, 1,027,670 people are displaced — 707,472 of whom are dispersed in 9,819 evacuation centers, while 320,198 are being served outside of evacuation centers.
Additionally, 27 deaths were reported due to drowning, falling debris, electrocution, and landslides, the NDRRMC said.
Two people were reported missing, and 36 individuals were injured. One confirmed injury is of a four-year-old in Quezon City who sustained a traumatic brain injury from falling from the evacuation center.
The NDRRMC also reported that 400 areas across eight regions remain flooded—181 in Central Luzon, 104 in the Bicol Region, 61 in Cagayan Valley, 29 in Calabarzon, 16 in BARMM, four in the Ilocos Region, three in Western Visayas, and two in Northern Mindanao.
The number of damaged houses has risen from 41,202 to 42,702. Of these, 35,192 were partially damaged, while 7,510 were totally destroyed.
A total of 274 roads and 61 bridges remain impassable. The Bicol Region has the highest number of impassable roads at 118, while Cagayan Valley has the most impassable bridges, at 39. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
