Taal Volcano logs minor eruption Wednesday morning

MANILA: A minor phreatomagmatic eruption occurred at the main crater of Taal Volcano Wednesday (Nov 12) morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolcol told the Inquirer that the minor eruptions do not indicate a larger eruption, however, the agency is also anticipating more minor eruptions since it is still under Alert Level 1.

“This [minor eruption] is still consistent with the Alert Level 1 status of Taal Volcano, which means there is a low level of unrest. It does not indicate escalating activity of Taal Volcano,” Bacolcol said.

“We anticipate similar minor eruptions. Under Alert Level 1, minor phreatic or phreatomagmatic eruptions in Taal can occur anytime,” he added. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
