YANGON: Wi-Fi internet services in Yangon have remained unstable for almost a week, according to local internet users.
Service disruptions reportedly began around November 1, affecting home Wi-Fi connections across various townships. Users said the problem persists, with connections frequently dropping and slow internet speeds.
“We still can’t use the internet properly. The line goes on and off constantly, and we can’t get anything done. It’s not just one provider — almost all networks are affected,” said a resident from North Dagon Township.
Internet service providers explained that the disruption was caused by damage to undersea fiber-optic cables, affecting connectivity nationwide. They said temporary backup links are currently being used to restore access, but users may still experience unstable connections, slow speeds, and frequent interruptions.
“The companies say it’s just the line issue, but the bills still arrive on time. We don’t know if there’ll be any compensation for the outage days. For now, we’ve already received messages reminding us to pay,” said a resident from Thaketa Township.
Service providers stated that they are working to restore full connectivity as soon as possible and acknowledged ongoing technical difficulties causing delays. They also announced plans to offer service adjustments and possible compensation for the days when internet access was disrupted. - Eleven Media/ANN
