Breaking the stigma: Filipina star opens up about mental health struggles

MANILA: In today’s fast-paced digital world, where social media never sleeps and public scrutiny is constant, the pressure to appear perfect can take a toll, especially for celebrities.

Behind the curated posts and red-carpet smiles, many stars face a battle that often remains unseen: their mental health. In an era where cancel culture thrives and criticism can trend within minutes, several Filipino celebrities have bravely chosen to speak up about their struggles, hoping to shed light on the importance of self-care and compassion.

Among the most vocal is Liza Soberano (pic), who has openly discussed her mental health journey, revealing her traumatic childhood marked by abuse and neglect.

These experiences, she said, shaped her tendency to please others and suppress her truth. Soberano has since used her platform to advocate for child protection and mental health awareness, emphasising that she feels a deep sense of responsibility to speak up for those who cannot. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
