BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Over 3,000 participants joined a Walkathon held Saturday (Oct 18) morning in conjunction with the 35th Teachers’ Day Celebration 2025, organised by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) at Taman Mahkota Jubli Emas.
Guest of honour Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Romaizah Md Salleh officiated the flag-off ceremony to mark the start of the three-kilometre walk, which began and ended at the iconic park.
The Walkathon formed part of the ministries’ efforts to commemorate Teachers’ Day through recreational sports that promote wellness, unity, and community spirit.
The event aimed to strengthen ties among officers and staff of both ministries as well as members of the public, while also encouraging a healthier and more active lifestyle in support of the Bandarku Ceria initiative.
In her remarks, the minister highlighted the importance of fostering teamwork and camaraderie, noting that such activities contribute positively to participants’ physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Adding to the festivities, this year’s celebration also featured the ‘Acara Sukan Ria’ (Fun Sports Event) held in conjunction with National Family Day 2025.
Jointly organised by the Department of Schools, Department of Private Education, and the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), the event included a range of interactive activities and health screenings conducted by several government and private schools, as well as IBTE.
The Sukan Ria aimed to promote family bonding and strengthen relationships among school leaders, teachers, parents, students, and ministry personnel, reinforcing the shared spirit of togetherness that underpins both Teachers’ Day and National Family Day celebrations.
Also present were Permanent Secretaries, Vice-Chancellors, the Rector, Ra’es, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Officers, School Leaders, Teachers, and Staff from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
