SINGAPORE: Two people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out in the kitchen of a 13th-floor HDB unit in Jurong West on Oct 14.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to the fire at Block 675A Jurong West Street 64 at about 5.40pm.

When firefighters arrived, the kitchen of the affected unit was ablaze. The fire was extinguished using a water jet.

Two people were taken to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, said SCDF.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

SCDF reminded members of the public not to leave any cooking or heating activities unattended. Any gas or electric switches should also be turned off when not in use, it said.

In its annual statistics report released in February, SCDF said there were 968 fires in homes in 2024, with unattended cooking and electrical fires – including faults in electrical wiring or overloaded sockets – the top two causes. - The Straits Times/ANN
