SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/ANN): Singaporean golfer Shannon Tan claimed her third title on the Ladies European Tour (LET), after firing a five-under 67 on the final day of the Hero Women’s Indian Open on Oct 12.

The 21-year-old’s closing round in the US$500,000 (S$648,870) tournament saw her finish with a seven-under 281 total at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Durgaon, about 30km south of New Delhi.

Tan, who shot rounds of 68, 73, 73 earlier in the week, started the final day tied for fourth at two-under 214, seven strokes behind India’s overnight leader Hitaashee Bakshi.

But as Bakshi faltered with a four-over 76, Tan moved ahead, mixing six birdies with a bogey to clinch the win, finishing a stroke ahead of England’s Alice Hewson (72).

While Hewson led the Singaporean till hole No. 18, a double bogey by the Briton on the par-five last hole saw Tan leapfrog her to clinch the title in dramatic fashion.

The world No. 100’s victory in India comes after she won her second LET title at the Amundi German Masters in June, adding to a growing collection of accolades that includes her maiden win on the circuit at the Magical Kenya Ladies Open in 2024.

Apart from her triumph in Germany, Tan has had six other top-10 finishes on the tour this season and now sits second on the Order of Merit behind English rookie Mimi Rhodes.

She began her 2025 campaign strongly with a third-place finish at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, followed by top-10 results at the Jabra Ladies Open (second), Tenerife Women’s Open (tied-sixth), Hulencourt Women’s Open (tied-10th), Aramco Houston Championship (fourth), and the La Sella Open (fourth).

Tan also made the cut at both Majors she contested this year, coming in tied-59th and joint-40th at the Evian Championship and British Women’s Open, respectively.

In March, she also recorded her best performance by a Singaporean at the HSBC Women’s World Championship in March, when she came in tied-34th in the field of 64 at Sentosa Golf Club’s Tanjong Course. - The Straits Times/ANN
