Indonesia's Densus 88 arrests four Daesh-linked terror suspects in Sumatra

JAKARTA: Indonesia police’s Densus 88 counterterrorism unit has arrested four suspected members of the Daesh-linked terrorist group Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) in West and North Sumatra.

The suspects were detained on Oct 3 and 6 for allegedly spreading propaganda and provocation to carry out acts of terror through social media, according to a Densus 88 statement.

The first suspect was arrested in Padang, while the remaining three were picked up in Pesisir Selatan, Padang and Tanjung Balai, respectively.

The counterterrorism unit seized a camouflage vest, papers bearing the Daesh logo, and three books promoting the establishment of an Islamic caliphate.

"Radicalisation attempts on social media remain widespread. The public must remain vigilant to all forms of provocation and radical content,” Densus 88 said.

It also urged communities to monitor their surroundings, including the activities and movements of family members and children, to prevent exposure to radical teachings online.

The latest arrests are part of ongoing efforts to prevent acts of terror at an early stage and to strengthen community resilience against extremist ideologies, Densus 88 added. - Bernama
