Govt departments provide aid as displaced residents return to former Myanmar rebel town Kyaukme

YANGON: The Tatmadaw has regained control of Kyaukme town, which was temporarily controlled by the Palaung terrorist armed group (TNLA), and displaced residents are returning to their homes, according to sources.

The Tatmadaw is conducting counter-terrorism operations in some townships, villages, and areas temporarily controlled by the insurgents to ensure that the people can live peacefully and develop their socio-economic lives and it regained control of Kyaukme town, which was temporarily controlled by the insurgents, on Oct 1.

While the insurgents temporarily controlled the area around Kyaukme, the local ethnic people were forced to abandon their homes and belongings.

The Tatmadaw has been able to regain control of the Kyaukme, and some of the local ethnic people who were temporarily displaced are also returning to their homes.

The Tatmadaw troops are continuing to carry out demining and security activities in the towns and villages to ensure that the temporarily displaced ethnic people in Kyaukme and the surrounding areas can live peacefully.

In addition, to provide necessary assistance to the local people and to reopen government administrative mechanisms such as offices, schools, and hospitals for public health care, several organisations arrived in Kyaukme on Oct 2 with vehicles carrying necessary relief supplies and food for the people. - Eleven Media/ANN
