PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian 5th Military Region has underlined the importance of implementing the commitments made during the recent Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee (GBC) meeting, as part of ongoing efforts to ease tensions along the frontier.

On Friday (Sept 19), Major General Sar Kimpak, deputy commander of the 5th Military Region, led a delegation to a meeting with the Chanthaburi-Trat Border Defence Command, headed by Captain Oudom Sirikunwanyo, in Mueang Trat district, Thailand.

According to Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, both sides discussed ways to find peaceful solutions to existing issues, with the shared goal of de-escalating tensions and safeguarding stability along the border.

“The Cambodian side emphasised the full and effective implementation of the Agreed Minutes of the First Special Meeting of the Cambodia–Thailand General Border Committee, held on September 10, 2025,” Maly stated.

She reiterated Phnom Penh’s firm position that dialogue and agreed mechanisms remain the best tools for addressing disputes.

The meeting was part of continued military-to-military engagement aimed at preventing further confrontations and ensuring that the border remains an area of cooperation rather than conflict. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
