Japan's top tech company Panasonic plans new plant in Thailand to meet AI server demand


TOKYO (dpa): Panasonic Industry, a subsidiary of Japanese electronics giant Panasonic, said on Friday that it plans to invest around 17 billion yen (US$115 million) to build a new production facility in Thailand.

The new plant is intended to help meet growing artificial intelligence (AI) server demand and will be located on the grounds of the existing Panasonic Manufacturing Ayutthaya property. It's scheduled to commence operations in November 2027, with expected mass production by the end of fiscal 2028.

With these plans, Panasonic aims to boost its global production of MEGTRON multi-layer circuit board materials, which are used in computers and other electronic devices.

The company plans to double its production capacity over the next five years to meet increasing demand in the AI server and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure markets. - dpa
