Laos boosts cybersecurity to counter threats

VIENTIANE: Laos' Ministry of Technology and Communications and its partners hosted a workshop on attack analysis and recovery after cyberattacks, furthering efforts to strengthen the country's cybersecurity and resilience against cyber threats.

The workshop, held here from Wednesday to Friday (Sept 12), aimed to enhance and streamline Laos' cybersecurity efforts, reflecting its commitment to continuously addressing emerging cyber threats.

As ransomware continues to pose a global threat, causing substantial financial losses and disrupting essential services, it targets not only government institutions but also businesses, healthcare and education systems. For Laos, cyberattacks can significantly hinder economic growth, national security and public trust in digital services, according to the ministry's report on Thursday.

Laos is making strides in its digital transformation, with a focus on cybersecurity as a national priority. Strengthening the capacity of personnel and fostering international cooperation are key to preventing and mitigating the impact of cyber threats.

During the workshop, participants exchanged global best practices for analysing cyberattacks and enhancing security operations. The event emphasised the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing in addressing cybersecurity challenges, paving the way for a safer digital future for the country. - Xinhua
