A Brunei "dreamer" captivates a global audience


BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei was proudly represented on the global stage, as Allen Ang Boon Kiat (pic) secured third place in the World Championship of Public Speaking 2025, recently held in Philadelphia, USA.

Organised by Toastmasters International, a global nonprofit organisation devoted to communication and leadership development, the World Championship of Public Speaking is regarded as the peak of competitive public speaking worldwide.

Each year, more than 30,000 contestants from 140 countries compete through multiple rounds, from country to regional level before only the top eight reach the finals.

Ang’s journey from Brunei to Philadelphia is a testament to extraordinary dedication and excellence.

Ang captivated the audience with his inspiring speech entitled “Keep Dreaming”, which reflected his belief that life rewards those who remain hopeful and persevere in pursuit of their aspirations.

Through this message of resilience, his powerful delivery resonated with listeners worldwide and earned him recognition as one of the top three communicators globally, a historic achievement for Brunei.

“Allen’s achievement is proof that Bruneians can compete and excel on the world stage. His success reflects the spirit of Wawasan Brunei 2035--building a highly skilled, confident, and globally respected people," said Reuben Chin, the President of the Brunei Advanced Speakers Club.

“He has shown us that when we dream big and prepare diligently, we uplift not only ourselves but also our nation," he added.
