Hun Manet and Xi Jinping pledge stronger Cambodia-China cooperation; Beijing backs border ceasefire

SHANGHAI (Khmer Times): Prime Minister Hun Manet announced after talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping that Cambodia and China will deepen cooperation across all sectors, with Beijing pledging continued support for Cambodia’s self-reliant development and national sovereignty.

In a Facebook post today, Mr Hun Manet said he held working discussions with President Xi aimed at further strengthening bilateral cooperation.

“China expressed support for the ceasefire between Cambodian and Thai troops, as well as for Asean’s ceasefire monitoring mechanism led by Malaysia, and called for the swift establishment of the Asean Observer Team (AOT),” he said.

Mr Hun Manet is leading a high-level Cambodian delegation to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Summit being held from 30 August to 1 September 2025 in Tianjin, China, at the invitation of President Xi.

He is accompanied by Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), along with ministers, senior government officials, and representatives from the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce and the Cambodian Oknha Association.

He is also scheduled to deliver a statement on the summit’s theme: “Implementing Multilateralism, Ensuring Regional Security and Promoting Sustainable Development.” - Khmer Times
