PHNOM PENH (Khmer Times): Chheng Sreyroth, well-known purveyor of beauty creams and lotions, has landed herself in prison after making extraordinary claims on Cambodian social media.
The famous lotion tycoon has ended up behind bars after she was charged with incitement and demoralising the army with her social media content.
An August 15 announcement from the Kandal Provincial Court stated that Chheng Sreyroth also known as "Love Riya", 40, online lotion vendor living in Kampong Samnanh commune, Kandal province’s Takhmao city, had been charged with two counts of “incitement to discriminate” and “demoralisation of the army” under Articles 472 and 496 of the Criminal Code.
She faces a prison term of two to five years if convicted.
Major Kem Vathana, a Deputy Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department in Kandal province, said yesterday that Sreyroth, who calls herself “Daughter of the Dragon King”, made the offending posts on August 6 and 13.
“In her (August 6) Facebook post, Sreyroth said that because of her, the King Dragons, who are her parents, went to protect the land and fought first with the Thai army, which led the Cambodian army to defeat the Thai army. And she saw them,” Maj Vathan said.
She claimed that her spirit entered the Cambodian soldiers, enabling them to defeat the Thai army, he said.
On August 13, when Cambodia banned the import of Thai fruits, Sreyroth wrote on Facebook that she would also continue to import and sell Thai lotions in Cambodia because the people had the right to decide for themselves whether they would buy them, he added.
Heng Kimheng, Sreyroth’s husband, suggested that her confusion might be caused by excessive chemical levels in the lotion she used.
