Brunei targets 85% homeownership by 2035

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Brunei is aiming to achieve 85 per cent homeownership under the national housing scheme in support of the aspirations outlined in Brunei Vision 2035, a government minister said on Wednesday (Aug 6).

As of 2025, the national homeownership rate stands at 68 per cent, said Muhammad Juanda Rashid, minister of development, at the legislative council session.

The minister also outlined additional targets in line with national development goals, including achieving 100 per cent quality water supply by 2035, which is currently at 99.9 percent.

Efforts are underway to reduce waste disposal to 1.0 kg per person daily by 2035, down from 1.27 kg in 2024. The country is targeting a 30 per cent recycling rate by 2035, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal on responsible consumption and production.

The Ministry of Development continues to focus on providing sustainable, safe, inclusive and resilient infrastructure. These efforts are central to realising Brunei Vision 2035's goal of producing educated, highly skilled and successful citizens while enhancing the nation's quality of life and supporting dynamic economic growth. - Xinhua
