Ischaemic heart diseases remain leading cause of death in Philippines in 2024


MANILA: Ischaemic heart diseases, neoplasms, and cerebrovascular diseases were the top three causes of death in the Philippines in 2024, according to the preliminary data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

In a statement released on Wednesday (July 30), the agency said that the leading causes of death in 2024 were consistent with the causes of death in 2023.

The agency said ischaemic heart diseases were the leading cause of death in 2024 with 116,795 cases, accounting for 19.2 per cent of the total deaths nationwide.

Neoplasms followed as the second leading cause with 67,449 deaths, representing 11.1 per cent of the total.

Cerebrovascular diseases ranked third with 59,858 recorded cases, constituting 9.8 per cent of the total death. - Xinhua
