Thai authorities arrest 36 undocumented Myanmar nationals in Pha Phon Township, Thailand


BANGKOK: Thai authorities have arrested 36 undocumented Myanmar nationals in Than Phaphon Township, Kanchanaburi Province, according to reports from Thailand.

At around 8am on Friday (July 4), Thai authorities stopped a van driving from Sangkhlaburi to Than Phan Phan at a checkpoint at the entrance to Than Phan Phan.

The van drove through the checkpoint and fled. Thai authorities chased it and arrested it near Sahakornnikhon Village in Than Phan Phan Township.

Thai authorities inspected the van and detained 36 undocumented Myanmar nationals, including a Thai driver, according to Thai news reports.

Thai authorities investigated the undocumented Myanmar nationals and found that they had illegally crossed the Thai-Myanmar border after arriving in the City of Three Pagoda from Yangon, Myanmar.

They were supposed to pay about 12,000 Thai baht each as a brokerage fee, but were arrested by Thai authorities on the way.

It was also revealed that a Thai man hired a Thai man to drive a van for 4,600 baht to pick up and transport the undocumented Myanmar nationals.

The undocumented Burmese nationals and the Thai driver are currently being held at the police station in Daun Pa Phon, and further legal action will be taken, according to Thai news reports.
