Teenager stabbed in suspected machete attack in Sydney

SYDNEY (dpa): A 16-year-old boy was stabbed at a house party in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs in an attack involving machetes, Australian police said on Sunday.

New South Wales Police said on Saturday evening they received reports that the 16-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were at the front of a house in the suburb of Chifley, near Malabar beach, "when they were approached by approximately 10 people," including two people carrying machetes.

The 16-year-old was "assaulted and stabbed," sustaining lacerations to his back and legs. He was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

The 18-year-old was unharmed.

"Initial inquiries have led police to believe the incident was targeted," a NSW Police statement said. - dpa
