YANGON: A one-year-old and six-month-old baby drowned in Zai Taung, Bago City, where the Bago River is flooding, according to residents.
On Thursday (July 3) morning, a resident said that the six-month-old baby in a flooded house near Thamane Kyaw Monastery on Mingalar Street in Zaitaung Ward, Bago City, fell into the water and drowned while the parents were selling food at the market.
He continued, "The parents forgot to close the door to the stairs when they went to the market at around 4am.
"It is believed that the child woke up and fell down the stairs while walking. The water was about a foot and a half deep at that location.
"The child was found lying face down near the stairs, dead."
The body of the drowned child was cremated at the Sinphyu Cemetery in Bago on the afternoon of July 3, the resident said.
It was also reported that a death investigation has been opened at the relevant local police station and an investigation has been conducted into the incident.
