YANGON: Necessary action is being taken against the perpetrators after a video showing a student being assaulted by other students at No. 6 Basic Education High School in Myaungmya was shared on social media.
On June 18, a video clip of a student being slapped by two other students was shared on some social media pages, and the student who was slapped was seen paying obeisance with hands clasped palm to palm to the two perpetrators.
The students involved in the incident are students studying at the school, and the incident happened in February 2025, said a person assisting the case.
“The incident happened in February 2025," he said. "Now, the relevant departments are taking action against the perpetrators. We, the local people, want justice. We will help the victim to heal her trauma. It would be good if the children who were abused were given the opportunity to attend another school. It is human nature to make mistakes.”
The incident was criticised after the video clip went viral on social media, and the action was taken after it was reported that the two students who committed the crime were still studying at the school, while the victim was unable to attend school, a person assisting the case wrote on social media.
“The people from the victim side have two requests: The two students who physically assaulted the victim, as well as the person who filmed the video, should apologise to her, and the students should be transferred from the current school they are attending to another school so that the victim can return to school,” a person assisting the case wrote on social media.
After the video clip went viral on social media, the education officer, the school principal, teachers and the two students who committed the crime went to the victim’s house on the evening of June 18, and the two students who committed the crime apologised. They said they could not record the apology and left.
"The education officer, the school principal and the teachers came with the two students who committed the crime to the victim's house to apologise and the perpetrators said they couldn't accept the video recording of their apology. The students who committed the crime are studying at the school, and the victim doesn't dare to go to school anymore. The officials also said that the perpetrators cannot be expelled from school," one person assisting the case wrote on social media. - Eleven Media/ANN
