BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam Berhad (BIBD) has been awarded the Most Sustainable Financial Institution of the Year in Brunei 2023 at the Global Good Governance (3G) Awards, held in conjunction with the Global Good Governance Summit recently.

Deputy Minister (Civil Service Governance) at the Prime Minister’s Office Datuk Seri Paduka Mohd Riza Datuk Paduka Mohd Yunos and chairman of Cambridge International Financial Advisory (IFA) Professor Humayun Dar presented the award in recognition of BIBD’s leadership in embedding sustainability across its operations, community engagements, and national development efforts.

According to Cambridge IFA, "This award is a testament to BIBD’s unwavering commitment to excellence, sustainability and community development.

"Aligned with Brunei Vision 2035, BIBD continues to champion initiatives that foster a dynamic and sustainable economy.

"The bank’s sustainability framework articulates its long-term vision for environmental stewardship and the achievement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) and demonstrates a strong focus on strategies that promote environmental responsibility, ethical entrepreneurship and inclusive social impact.

"BIBD’s principles and vision remain firmly rooted in the well-being of people and society, guided by the Maqasid Syariah – which inherently advocates for sustainability.”

Organised by Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali in collaboration with Cambridge IFA, the Global Good Governance Summit convened global thought leaders, institutions, and policymakers under the theme ‘Transformative Governance for Health, Environment, and Community Sustainability’.

BIBD’s participation as one of the event’s main sponsors reflects its ongoing commitment to supporting meaningful platforms that promote ethical leadership and drive sustainable development.

In addition to receiving the award, BIBD Assistant Head of Government Relations and Special Projects Dayangku Rodzi Pengiran Abdul Rahman played a key role at the summit as the moderator for the panel discussion titled ‘Strengthening Institutions for Community Well-being and Sustainability’.

The session explored governance strategies and institutional models that can help build more inclusive, resilient communities in the face of evolving global challenges. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
