Brunei's central bank stresses crucial role of public trust in financial system

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (Xinhua): Public trust in the financial sector is the cornerstone of a well-functioning financial system, Hajah Rashidah Sabtu, managing director of Brunei's central bank, has announced.

Previous financial market meltdowns have shown that the lack of trust in financial systems can lead to damaging consequences, Hajah Rashidah said at an event held near the capital.

Hajah Rashidah said the central bank has a crucial role in maintaining monetary and financial stability in the country to sustain depositors' and investors' confidence or trust in the domestic financial sector.

The event discussed issues on sustainable development, climate change, economic empowerment. - Xinhua
