15 killed as bus plunges off cliff in Sri Lanka


COLOMBO: Fifteen people were killed and over 20 others injured when a bus plunged off a cliff in Kotmale, located in Sri Lanka's Central Province, on Sunday (May 11) morning, police said, reported Xinhua.

The injured have been admitted to regional hospitals for treatment, and an investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched, police said.

Road accidents are frequent in Sri Lanka, with official data showing that buses are often involved.

As of April 2, a total of 592 Sri Lankans have died in 565 fatal road accidents reported this year, police said earlier. - Bernama-Xinhua
