SEOUL: K-pop stars stole the spotlight at this year’s Met Gala, an annual fundraising event for the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, on Monday (May 5), showcasing iconic outfits on the blue carpet.

Jennie of Blackpink embraced a classic Chanel look, wearing a tailored black suit inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s 1987 fall-winter collection for the brand. She added her own twist to the ensemble with a black-and-white steampunk hat, complementing the original design.

As announced last February, the dress code for the 2025 Met Gala is “Tailored for You.” Guests attending the gala were encouraged to showcase their creativity and styling sense by reinterpreting Black dandyism.

The Met Gala invites around 450 guests each year, including global celebrities, young creatives and leaders from fashion, art and sports.

Rose of Blackpink returned to the event for the first time in four years, donning a chic, androgynous black suit from Saint Laurent, paired with a taffeta black shawl.

Lisa of Blackpink made her Met Gala debut this year, starting with a classic black maxi coat. After removing her coat on the blue carpet, she revealed a shimmering black jacket and micro shorts, paired with Louis Vuitton logo-patterned tights.

S.Coups of Seventeen also made his Met Gala debut, wearing a classic gray suit from BOSS inspired by traditional Korean garments, hanbok. The suit was custom-made to preserve the details of the hanbok’s collar and skirt, highlighting Korean aesthetics.

The Met Gala, the largest annual fashion event in the US, has been held every first Monday of May since 1948 as a fundraising event. The event grew in prominence when Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue and the real-life model for the character in the movie "The Devil Wears Prada," took over in 1999.
