BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The remaining 10 years leading up to the 2035 target year demand more comprehensive and integrated efforts through the whole-of-government and whole-of-nation approaches, said Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

The monarch said this in his speech while chairing the First Meeting of the Wawasan Brunei 2035 for the year 2025 at Istana Nurul Iman yesterday.

Also in attendance was Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office Al-Muhtadee Billah, in his capacity as Deputy Chairman of the Wawasan Brunei 2035.

The Sultan emphasised that, despite various achievements, the nation now faces new challenges requiring more flexible and responsive strategic approaches.

The meeting discussed the revision of the Wawasan Brunei 2035 Framework to ensure it is more inclusive of current issues and challenges that are being and will be encountered.

The revision aims to ensure that policy planning and implementation remain relevant and in line with the evolving socio-economic landscape, both nationally and at regional and global levels.

The meeting also reviewed the latest National Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the use of the Wawasan Brunei 2035 Index which is an integrated approach to comprehensively assess progress toward achieving the three main aspirations of the Wawasan Brunei 2035.

This approach incorporates cross-sectional national KPIs to evaluate policy effectiveness, identify performance gaps and support strategic direction and decision-masking. In this regard, coordination between agencies and sectors was also emphasised to ensure that all parties move in unison toward common goals.

The meeting examined the progress of the implementation of the Blueprints which serve as guidance for the execution of development policies and programmes. Extensive communication efforts are being actively undertaken to enhanced awareness and inclusive engagement across all stakeholders, including the general public and the private sector.

The Sultan also recalled the launch of Wawasan Brunei 2035 in 2007, during which the nation took a measured approach in forming the necessary planning and implementation structures. Now, with a solid foundation and framework are hoped to provide clearer direction towards achieving Wawasan Brunei 2035’s goals.

The monarch called on all parties, including the non-governmental sector, to continue playing an active role as strategic development partners in realising the aspirations and objectives of Wawasan Brunei 2035.

The Wawasan Brunei 2035 Supreme Council continues to serve as the nation’s highest platform for coordinating, guiding and monitoring the progress of Wawasan Brunei 2035 implementation, with the aim of shaping a future that is excellent, sustainable and resilient for Brunei Darussalam. - Borneo Bulletin/ANN
