PHNOM PENH: The newly-built Dara Sakor Airport in southwest Cambodia's Koh Kong province has opened to domestic regular flights for the first time, a spokesperson said on Saturday (April 12).

Cambodia Airways launched its inaugural flight between the Phnom Penh International Airport and the Dara Sakor Airport on Friday with an Airbus A320, said Sinn Chanserey Vutha, secretary of state at the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation.

"The first launch of domestic flights to the Dara Sakor Airport will facilitate the travel of tourists and investors to coastal areas and islands," he told Xinhua.

Vutha added that a regular flight will be operated every Friday, departing from Phnom Penh at 3.20pm local time and arriving at the Dara Sakor Airport at 3.50pm local time.

As there is only one flight per week, passengers or tourists can return by bus after visiting there, he said.

According to the official, the airport, covering the parcel of 218 hectares in the first phase, was invested by the Coastal Airport Investment Co., Ltd. at a cost of about US$200 million.

The airport is the kingdom's fourth airport in operations, in addition to the Phnom Penh International Airport, Siem Reap Angkor International Airport and Sihanouk International Airport. - Xinhua
