China pet lover spends US$280,000 on outfits, accessories for dogs, builds walk-in wardrobe

A woman in China has spent two million yuan (US$280,000) on outfits and accessories for her pet dogs, even building a walk-in wardrobe for them.

The pet owner, known online as @yikemochi, is a pet fashion influencer based in Shanghai.

She has three pets: six-year-old Mochi, five-year-old Milky, and three-year-old Piggy.

Yikemochi said two of her dogs wear hair clips, while the male does not.

In a viral video, she gives viewers a tour of her pets’ impressive wardrobe and jewellery stand.

The woman revealed that she has spent about two million yuan on more than 2,500 clothing items and accessories for her beloved dogs.

Her collection features tweed jackets costing from 4,000 to 5,000 yuan (US$550 to US$700), as well as cashmere jumpers priced at around 3,000 yuan each.

The wardrobe also includes rows of embroidered skirts, Disney-themed outfits, and a variety of colourful inner clothes, all designed to match different fashion styles.

Also, the lavish wardrobe is filled with sparkling clips, sunglasses, leashes, and even tiny handbags for the dogs.

Nearby, dozens of colourful Canadian-branded dog harnesses are also neatly arranged, each priced at about 500 yuan.

Yikemochi said she often travels to South Korea and Japan to shop for their clothes, and some items, like hand-knitted jumpers from Italy, are ordered online.

She also buys traditional Chinese costumes from mainland shopping platforms.

Since late January, Yikemochi has posted daily photos of her dogs in themed outfits, such as princess, nautical, and gothic styles. She also coordinates her own outfits with her pets.

She takes great care of their clothes, with some needing dry cleaning, and dresses them carefully every day before their walks.

Her pets strike model-like poses in parks, shopping centres, and gardens, and are always ready for the camera.

Yikemochi has not revealed the source of her income.

Her pets’ lavish lifestyle has sparked widespread attention on mainland social media.

One online observer said: “Better than what I wear. If this is a dog’s life, sign me up!”

“Owners always give their pets the best within their means,” said another person.

Reports of people spending hefty sums on their furry companions have surfaced across China.

In March, a woman from Fujian province in southeastern China hosted a wedding for her two Yorkie dogs, custom-making wedding dresses, pet collars, and cakes, costing about 100,000 yuan (US$14,000).
