China criticises US V-P Vance for calling its people peasants

BEIJING: China has denounced US Vice-President J. D. Vance’s (pic) rhetoric as “ignorant” after he said the United States was borrowing money from “Chinese peasants” in a television interview last week.

“China’s position on Sino-US economic and trade relations has been made very clear,” said Lin Jian, a spokesperson for China’s Foreign Ministry, during a news conference on April 8. “It is surprising and sad to hear the vice-president say such ignorant and impolite words.”
