VIENTIANE (Xinhua): A state funeral for Laos' former President Khamtay Siphandone was held at the That Luang esplanade in Lao capital Vientiane on Monday.

The former President's funeral was attended by numerous high-level Lao and foreign dignitaries, including General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, along with international representatives and members of the public.

In his eulogy, Lao President Thongloun praised Khamtay as a visionary leader, military strategist, and a loyal revolutionary who contributed significantly to Laos' independence and development. His patriotism, dedication to the people, and commitment to the Party were central to his legacy.

He also pledged to support Khamtay's family, ensuring that his descendants continue contributing to the nation's growth.

Thongloun added that the passing of former President Khamtay marks the loss of a strategic leader, military strategist, diplomat, and socio-economic developer, but his enduring legacy and valuable lessons will continue to inspire the nation.
