Two defence volunteers killed, eight injured in attack in southern Thailand


NARATHIWAT: Two defence volunteers were killed and eight others were injured in a bomb blast in Sungai Golok, Narathiwat, on Saturday (March 8).

In the incident which occurred at about 7 pm local time, a group of armed men in two four-wheel-drive vehicles attacked the Sungai Golok District Office.

Sungai Golok Deputy Police Chief Lt. Col. Pol. Nitti Suksang confirmed that the group opened fire and threw grenades at the defence volunteers who were on duty.

"In the attack, two members of the defence volunteers died on the spot while three others were seriously injured and five suffered light injuries,” he told reporters here Saturday.

According to Nitti, all the injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Sungai Golok Hospital.

Police are conducting investigations to identify the motive and suspects involved in the attack, he said. - Bernama
