BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: The arrival of the international luxury cruise ship, MS Riviera in Brunei yesterday (March 1) further signifies a positive step forward for Brunei’s cruise tourism.

MS Riviera, coming from Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, brought over 1,137 passengers and 753 crew members into the country before continuing its journey to Semarang Java, Indonesia.

While in the Sultanate, the guests of MS Riviera explored the country’s attractions, including the Royal Regalia Museum, Jame Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque, Istana Nurul Iman and Kampong Ayer. The tours offered guests a glimpse of the Sultanate’s rich cultural heritage and natural beauty.

At the Cruise Ship Centre, travelers explored a selection of authentic Bruneian souvenirs.

Visitors were impressed by its rich heritage and warm hospitality. Travelers Penny and Graham from Vancouver, Canada, had a delightful experience where they enjoyed a relaxing break with local pastries and tea. They expressed admiration for the country’s beauty and the kindness of its people, adding that Brunei felt like a welcoming and peaceful place.

The arrival of MS Riviera underscores Brunei’s growing appeal as an emerging destination in the global cruise market.

As the fifth cruise ship to dock in the country since January 2025, the visit reflects the increasing interest in adding the Sultanate as a key stop on international cruise itineraries.
