Cambodian FM stresses urgent need for global peace amid escalating uncertainties

PHNOM PENH: Cambodian Foreign Minister Prak Sokhonn (pic) on Monday (Feb 24) stressed the urgent need for global peace amid escalating uncertainties, geopolitical divisions and humanitarian crises.

Sokhonn, also a deputy prime minister, made it clear in a pre-recorded speech delivered to the High-Level Segment of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, the Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

"He emphasised that peace is fundamental to sustainable development and the protection of human rights," the press release said.

"Cambodia's history serves as a testament to the possibility of transformation from three decades of conflict to peace, stability, and prosperity under the visionary leadership of Hun Sen and the win-win strategy," it added.

Hun Sen was former prime minister and now is the president of the senate.

Sokhonn said Cambodia's commitment to global peace is evident through its contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions, and nearly 10,000 Cambodian peacekeepers, including more than 800 women, have been deployed since 2006 in 11 United Nations peacekeeping missions worldwide. - Xinhua
