SINGAPORE: Firefighters have been battling a blaze at a recycling plant in Kranji since 10.30am on Wednesday (Feb 19).

Six water jets and an unmanned “firefighting machine” have been deployed, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post.

When SCDF arrived at the 50m by 50m warehouse at 11 Kranji Crescent - occupied by recycling and waste management company Wah and Hua - this morning, the fire that involved waste materials was “well alight”, added the agency.

This is the third reported fire at the address since 2018.

In March 2024, 25 people were evacuated in an early morning fire that ravaged a processing area about 400 sq m - slightly smaller than a basketball court.

At the height of the operation, four water jets, two foam jets and an unmanned firefighting machine were deployed.

SGSecure app users, M1, StarHub and SingTel mobile subscribers within the vicinty of the conflagaration were sent texts advising them to steer clear of the area.

Traffic is building up as the firefighting operation continues, said the SCDF. It seeks the public’s understanding to avoid nearby roads and take alternative routes. - The Straits Times/ANN
