BALI (Bernama): The Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) has officially opened the 5th Multilateral Naval Exercise Komodo 2025 (MNEK 2025) in Denpasar, Bali, with the participation of 38 countries, including Malaysia, focusing on humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.

The exercise, which runs from Feb 15 to 22, was inaugurated by TNI AL chief Admiral Dr Muhammad Ali at Tanjung Benoa Port. It carries the theme "Maritime Partnership for Peace and Stability” and emphasises non-warfighting operations, including disaster response and maritime security cooperation.

"A total of 38 countries are participating, with 19 foreign warships, seven helicopters, and three maritime patrol aircraft involved,” he told reporters at the event here.

The Indonesian Navy is also deploying 19 naval vessels for joint training, discussions and collaborative disaster relief efforts globally, he added.

The exercise will include community-focused programmes such as the Engineering Civic Action Programme, which will see the construction of public facilities in Antiga Kelod village, Karangasem regency.

A Medical Civic Action Programme will also provide healthcare services, including general check-ups, dental care, mass circumcision, blood donations, and minor surgeries aboard the KRI Dr Wahidin Sudiro Husodo-991, which will dock at Tanah Ampo Port on Monday.

The 6th International Maritime Security Symposium, scheduled for Monday, will bring together delegates from participating countries to discuss regional and global maritime security issues. - Bernama
