62 kg of drugs seized in eastern Myanmar

YANGON: Myanmar authorities have seized 62 kg of ketamine in eastern Myanmar's Shan state, state-run daily The Mirror reported on Saturday (Feb 8).

Acting on a tip-off, anti-narcotics police searched a vehicle in Kengtung township in eastern Shan state on Feb. 3 and seized the drugs, the report said. A suspect onboard the car was also arrested, it added.

The confiscated drugs are approximately worth 520 million kyats (about US$247,619), the report said. Investigations revealed that the drugs came from Mongphen town and were intended to be transported to the Myanmar-Thailand border area in Tachileik township, it said.

The suspect has been charged under the country's laws, and further investigations are ongoing, the report added. - Xinhua
