JAKARTA (Bernama): Indonesia has strongly rejected any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians or alter the demographic composition of the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced.

In a statement on its official X account, the ministry stressed that such action obstructs the realisation of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine as envisioned by the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

"Indonesia calls on the international community to ensure respect for international law, particularly the right to self-determination of the Palestinians as well as their inalienable right to return to their homeland," the statement read.

The republic also reaffirmed that the only viable path to lasting peace in the region lies in addressing the root cause of the conflict: the illegal and prolonged Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory.

The statement followed reports that US President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed the "US will take over the Gaza Strip,” shortly after proposing the permanent resettlement of Palestinians outside the enclave under the pretext of promoting economic development.

Trump’s controversial proposal has drawn widespread condemnation from the international community, with many critics denouncing it as "ethnic cleansing” and a "war crime,” according to international media reports. - Bernama
