Myanmar receives 3,500 tons of rice for disaster-hit communities from Asean and its partners


YANGON (Xinhua): Myanmar has received 3,500 tons of rice provided by South Korea and China for disaster-hit communities for 2025 under the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) program 2024, Yin Min Htun, staff officer of the Rice Division under the Department of Agriculture, told Xinhua on Tuesday.

Since 2017, Myanmar's Department of Agriculture, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation, has actively participated in the APTERR program for rice storage and distribution, said the official.

Between 2017 and 2023, Myanmar received nearly 9,000 tons of rice through the APTERR program with the contribution of Plus Three countries, namely South Korea, Japan and China, and distributed to the disaster-hit areas, he added.

Myanmar received 3,450 tons of rice from South Korea and China through the APTERR program 2023, benefiting over 340,000 people through the distribution efforts, he said. - XInhua
