SINGAPORE (The Straits Times/ANN): A Singaporean man died and his partner went missing after a suspected gas explosion at their holiday home in Tuscany over the weekend, according to Italian media.

News outlet Il Tirreno said that the explosion happened on the night of Dec 21 in the Italian town of Molazzana, where the couple would spend their summer holidays after buying a house there a few years ago.

The media also named the deceased as Mr Seetoh Kwok Meng, 68, from Singapore. His wife, Ms Kai En Chang, 52, is from Taiwan.

The couple reportedly had just returned from dinner when a gas leak was believed to have caused an explosion that could be heard in the surrounding villages.

News outlet The Pinnacle Gazette reported that the walls in the house collapsed as flames engulfed the property.

The fire was put out by some 25 firefighters from both the Castelnuovo and Lucca fire departments.

Italian media reports said that the woman was still missing as at Dec 22.
