Over 32,000 passengers seen at ports nationwide: Philippine Coast Guard

MANILA: With the holidays fast approaching, over 32,000 passengers were travelling in ports across the Philippines on Friday (Dec 20), according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

PCG tallied 20,024 outbound passengers and 12,596 inbound passengers from midnight to 6am on Friday as part of the Department of Transportation’s Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2024 (Operation Safe Travels: Christmas 2024).

The Coast Guard added that it deployed 2,747 personnel in 16 PCG districts, inspecting 172 vessels and 73 motorbancas.

In anticipation of increased maritime activity for Christmas and New Year, PCG previously said its districts, stations, and sub-stations were on heightened alert from Dec 13, 2024, to Jan 6, 2025.

The Coast Guard also reminded the public to coordinate with its Public Affairs Service through its social media pages or its hotline at 0927-560-7729 for concerns about sea travel protocols over the holidays. - Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN
