Participant dies after completing Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon

SINGAPORE (Bernama): A participant in the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon has died after completing the race on Sunday.

According to the event organiser, the participant required and received medical attention on-site before being transported to Singapore General Hospital.

"Our condolences go out to the participant’s family and friends, to whom we will continue to offer our support,” the organiser said on Facebook.

According to The Straits Times (ST), this marks the third death in the history of the race, which was first held in 2002 with title sponsor Standard Chartered.

In 2011, Malcolm Sng Wei Ren, 22, died from acute coronary insufficiency after completing a half marathon, followed by John Gibson, 28, who died in 2016 after collapsing 1 km from the finish line during the event, ST reported. - Bernama
